Hi everyone, Kris here today with a new ‘Tips and Tools’ instalment! We’re going to be looking at the Scene Fusion tool, by KinematicSoup. This innovative software allows multiple members of a working team to efficiently collaborate, in real time. Read on to find out more about how Synty utilises this tool, both during production of our assets packs and on our livestreams.
KinematicSoup’s mission is to provide online virtual world technology to accelerate content creation and deliver unprecedented online experiences. They have definitely delivered a great experience that helps streamline our workflow ay Synty! Whenever we utilise Scene Fusion in our livestreams, we get a lot of viewers asking “how are you working together like that!” We’ve even had 25 Synty team members collaborating on a just-for-fun internal contest to celebrate our 10th Birthday.
Check out the video below where seven Synty team members are collaborating on a level using our POLYGON Apocalypse Wasteland pack.
Scene Fusion allows teams to seamlessly collaborate on scenes in real-time via Unity, similar to the process of working together with colleagues on a live Google Doc. Real-time replication accelerates level design work and review, simplifying the entire process.
Days worth of work can be compressed to hours when a team is iterating and problem solving together. This real-time collaboration allows you to design faster and ship your game sooner!
Synty Studios has been using Scene Fusion internally for many years now. Our team highly recommends this tool as it’s changed the way we operate, allowing the entire team to seamlessly work together even though we are a fully remote company.
We find this is much more efficient, and allows us to get more creative together, but it’s also just a lot more fun when the whole team can jump in and collaborate in real time!
We use Scene Fusion for demo scene production at Synty, but we find it's also a very good tool for pre-production and prototyping our ideas as well. We started using it around the time of POLYGON - Pirates and you can almost see exactly where our demo production got an instant efficiency boost, because our demos became more detailed and expansive as we have been able to have multiple artists collaborating on a scene at once, meaning our scenes got better without any any increase in time spent working on them.
KinematicSoup’s latest iteration of Scene Fusion (2.0.3) massively improves performance, flexibility, and extensibility. The software is now available as a cloud service or one off purchase via the Unity Store! The cloud version of Scene Fusion supports multiple simultaneous sessions, more concurrent users, and works best for remote teams. The asset store versions provide a single session over a LAN or VPN, best for teams working together in one building.
If it sounds like this could be a tool that would enhance your team’s development workflow, we hope you’ll give it a go! You can find out more and try Scene Fusion for free with 2 collaborators.
