How To: Migrate an Asset Pack from UE4 to UE5

Hey, it’s Kris from Synty, and in this guide, you’ll learn how to migrate asset packs from Unreal Engine 4 (UE4) into Unreal Engine 5 (UE5).

Before we start, it’s always a good idea to make a backup of your project.

In this example, we’ll be migrating the POLYGON City pack to an Unreal Engine 5 project. Let’s take a look at the steps and how to replicate them in your projects.

Step 1: Migrating assets from UE4

Open the asset pack you want to migrate from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5. Right-click the folder of that pack and click Migrate from the dropdown menu.

Confirm all the assets you wish to migrate are selected in the “Asset Report” and click OK.

Step 2: Choose a destination folder for migrated asset packs

To migrate the assets to your Unreal Engine 5 project, we need to choose a destination “Content” folder. Open your UE5 project, right-click the “Content” folder in the Content Browser and select Show in Explorer.

Copy the location of the Unreal Engine 5 Content folder. Back in your UE4 project, paste the copied location in the “Content” folder and click Select Folder.

Step 3: Check the migrated asset pack in UE5

Going back to your Unreal Engine 5 project, you should now see the migrated asset pack in the “Content” folder and ready for use.

And there you have it – a practical guide to migrating an asset pack to UE5.
